The World This Week

This Week, World leaders gathered at the U.N. for what was supposed to have been a conference on
climate change, which was quickly overshadowed by the emerging "Isis Crisis". Despite massive
protests on the streets demanding action, the leaders decided to kick the can down the road until
next years scheduled gathering in the City of Lights.  And while said leaders were not guilty of
outright lying to the public, they are most certainly guilty of gutless omission, for without the active
co-operation and participation of both India and China, home to almost half of the worlds population,
any and all cutbacks in omissions from current participants would be completely negated by the
projected increase from these two guilty parties.  Thus while the protesters most certainly have the
right spirit, they are shouting such outside the wrong doors, for while the institution that has become
the United Nations may now stand for many things, united has never really been one of them, such
representing the ideal, which is most often far removed from the reality of the actual.

On a lighter note, in his presiding of the U.N. Security Council, Homey delivered a very respectable
rendition of Al Pacino when he opened the closed door session with "Just when I think I'm out, they
pull me back in"!
