SELF-DEFEATING SANCTIONS
Dear Homey:
As the self-proclaimed harbinger of change in America's attitude and policies, both at home and abroad, your countries inability to learn from its own mistakes in this regard makes it appear both selfish and egotistical, not to mention, dare I say, rather slow and stupid. Since you now claim to represent an administration that is neither of these, let us all now see if you and your new administration can grasp the basic premise of this stated short essay.
The basic premise behind sanctions themselves is a form of political punishment/coercion upon
a government whose policies you do not agree with, thus the idea of employing a form of economic "armtwisting" to get said government and its peoples to see things your way. Great theory! And if said tactic is employed against another "democratically elected" government whose people can, at some point, vote them out of office, then hey, who knows, said theory might prove itself effective. Still with me Homey?
If so, then what do you think happens when said tactic is employed against a nation and government that is "not democratic" or represents a form of "totalitarian democracy" that has no fear of the consequences of said tactic upon its own population? Do you think such a policy
of isolation and hardship placed upon a population already powerless at the hands of their own government will then somehow miraculously win over their hearts and minds to your way of thinking? Or can I now perhaps remove your nations blinders long enough to get you to see the folly of such? Said policy of economic isolation has brought about your current vilification.
Engagement? (Note: please review the effect of said policy upon the former regime of Saddam Hussein, as well as the current nations of Cuba, Iran, and North Korea).
Your move Homey.

As I am one who likes to practice what I preach, I have asked the community of nations previously on this site to engage in economic sanctions against the democratically elected government of Canada, both provincial(left) and federal(right), the exact effects remain to be seen.
